Egypt Photo Gallery is online!

Tuesday, 02/02/2010

Today we got up early and took a taxi and the metro in the city. From the Midan Tahrir we went further by GUC bus. In the university we visited the first workshop, then spoke with the Dean and clarified some Things off - I usually just sat around ... Xenia quickly wrote a resume and will now come on Thursday for an interview. In the evening we went to the dean or drink anything, it was already quite late. So there's a tomorrow ...

Xenia is now in to look at the university and so I used the time to the pyramids. We went by taxi to the entrance to the Sphinx. Inside, I had to constantly guides Camel drivers, and offers horseback riding get rid of. Pretty exhausting. I then quickly ran back to camp and I go buy something sweet pastries.

Ägypten62

Two cyclists have arrived here yet ( www.tobiasquerweltein.de ). With whom I have talked a bit. Xenia came back late, I was already in bed. She has signed the contract and on 1 Begin in March. Until then, we still travel together to Syria. She will then fly back to Cairo from Damascus.

Friday, 02/05/2010

Closed - We are in the Village (suburb of Cairo, where the camp is) and have strolled around vegetables and bread purchased. It can now go on tomorrow.

Saturday, 06/02/2010, 293 km

In Carrefour, we now have increased inventories. Then filled up at a gas station two tanks (170 liters for less than 40 CHF - a dream) and out of the city. For a while we went through suburbs (also satellite cities come from Cairo) and then through the desert. Soon came the Hill, where you can see on the Suez Canal down. Funny, when large container ships pass through the desert.

Ägypten64 Ägypten65

the tunnel, we had to pay £ E then 2 and toll could go under the canal through. At Sinai we went along the coast to the south. We found no useful place to stay for a long time (actually what we were looking with shower, a shower this morning because we do not because of power and water loss could). All hotels and resorts were closed. We drove up to the "Hammam Pharaoh Hot Spring" more. Since warm water pushes out of the ground, but does not go swimming or something. It would have been the cave in there it is warm from the source, but the locals use as a toilet ... So back and bush camping in a quarry.

Sunday, 02.07.2010, 192 km

Today we are up to 1539 meters. At the monastery of St. Catherine (at the foot of Mount Sinai), we found in the "Fox Faraq Camp" is a good accommodation. It was a hot shower and good tea. The green Landy of Luxor is back again. At night it is all of 4 degrees "warm" and we sleep again wrapped with thick socks and hat ...

Ägypten66 Ägypten67 Ägypten68 Ägypten71

the morning we have now looked at the monastery and are later moved to Dahab on. Here we are in the Marine Garden Camp "next to a Mercedes 310D from Slovenia. Two brothers on vacation. Evening walk on the beach and something we defend ourselves the vendors and the waiter that we do in their place.

Tuesday, 02/09/2010

While we do laundry, I suddenly see Luca (the backpackers from Italy, with which we went on the ship from Halfa to Aswan) pass. A joyful Hello followed by a round of snorkeling on the reef almost before the camp. We see a lot of fish, and even a lion fish. Luca takes pictures with the packed digicam. Xenia and I eat in the evening go well.

Ägypten73

Wednesday, 10/02/2010

Luca met me today at ten, and we went snorkeling in the south of the village. Unfortunately, it has because of the high waves and wind anything we do not stay too long in the water. That's enough to see many fish and even two barracuda. Afternoon we read and we go to eat dinner with Luca. He goes tonight to Cairo on Monday and flies home. By the way, we learned of Luca, that the Germans have found the tractor back her dog! Beautiful!

Thursday, 11/02/2010

rest day - we do laundry and go to Internet cafe.

Friday, 02/12/2010

I wanted to snorkel again, so we are still remained another day. It had hardly any waves and so I enjoyed it very much. I'm back fire fish and a few other things seen. Afternoon we have made a purchase so that we can go tomorrow then.

Saturday, 02/13/2010, 123 km

morning we purchased bread and will soon set off after breakfast towards Nuweiba. There we asked the port for the ferry to Aqaba and are then 'Morgana restaurant down. Here we can still stand on the beach and use shower / WC. Since it's early yet, we want to visit the Coloured Canyon. So 20 km on the remains of the drove road to Suez (as hats washed away much good) and turned at the entrance to the Canyon. The Bedouins, but there did not actually let in without a guide and costs 100 E £ That was us too much, so we are back again.

Ägypten76 Ägypten78

In Morgan, we have then between Russian tour groups (who come back for lunch when they were in the canyon) drinking a Coke and have a little stroll on the beach. Tomorrow's is now "politically" out of Africa (the Sinai peninsula is indeed geologically already Asia). Let's see if the border settlement here is simpler than in Aswan ...

Nasal Poloyps In Dogs

Egypt, Part I

Thursday, 21/01/2010

early morning we were awakened by the wake-up call of the muezzin. On the ship's loudspeaker, he called for morning prayers ... We ate some bread, drank some tea and went on deck.

Ägypten01

Aswan we arrived around 10:00 clock. There we dropped anchor, to allow health check and go through immigration us. Only towards the Two Clock we were able to leave the ship. It was a huge crowd. The Arabs seem to be fun. Since called and screamed, cursed and pushed away each other. We thought we were back beautiful, yes, finally some time to come down from all the ferry. Pending further we went out the same, but edre Muhamad, the local equivalent of Mazar helped us to complete the customs control quickly. The paperwork for Luca's Landy was unfortunately not ready, and therefore he must also take a taxi into town. Kamal, the runner from Edress drove us then to the hotels in town and we took off for Saturday, so that we can get the cars together. In the evening we ate with the two Luca's in the "Aswan Moon", the restaurant of Mario, an Italian. Xenia and I moved into a room at the "Philae Hotel". For early morning we booked a trip to Abu Simbel, then straight to bed, must finally get out early.

Ägypten06

Friday, 22/01/2010

the alarm clock was about 02.45! As the convoy to Abu Simbel starts at four, we had almost the middle of the night from the springs. Quickly take the Breakfastbox and get on the bus. The "backpacker Luca" came along too. In the bus have then everybody's been dozing in front of him. Shortly before seven we were in Abu Simbel and then had to look at exactly two hours to the temple.

Ägypten03

went back at nine, the convoy then you and we were in the back by one hotel. Since we have made up some sleep and are later strolled around the city. gabs supper in the "Panorama", a charming restaurant on the Nile, which is owned by a collector. Why is all decorated with antiques.

Saturday, 23/01/2010

After breakfast I took off with Kamal, and Luca, Lars and Heike (the tractor crew) went to the harbor. The ship with the car was not there and I had to wait again. Luca was at the time of immigration to extend his visa. Then he gets his car tomorrow, he flies home and is in March. This requires that the visa because the car is on there with, to be valid. When then came the barge with my bush taxi and a tractor, they were presented for the first time huge trouble: The dog is out of the tractor trailer escaped and swam according to testimony of the crew ashore. Heike cries and complains to everyone and Lars each. I drive my car into the Zollhof and since we do only once the custom for the vehicles. Because today, insurance and road office are closed, we get the car tomorrow. So back to the city and with Luca's dinner went. Lars and Heike want to go rent a boat and look for the dog. We'll see if we ever heard of the search HAZARDS ...

After much standing around in the insurance and the street office, we finally the cars get. For customs and insurance, we paid about 500 £ E (approximately 100 CHF). For license plates and fees again came to E £ 100. And then we had all officials still 5 - E £ 25 to give bribes. This upsets me mega! Across Africa, we had to pay never, only in Arab countries (Morocco, Mauritania and Egypt) is nothing without bribes. We then looked for "Adams Home, a camping, but that seems closed. So we headed for Luxor and made a bush camp in a construction site. The night watchman came along and wanted to know what we're doing. I suggested to him that we want to sleep here, as he later brought Tea and a warm blanket, so cute! I then showed him our bed in the car and gave him back the covers. He had fun and chatted incessantly at us in Arabic. Then he went with his dogs and he said bring tea for breakfast. Fortunately Xenia understand a few words in Arabic.

Monday, 25.01.2010, 161 km

The night watchman woke us today with hot tea. We thanked him warmly, gave him a packet of biscuits and then went to Luxor. The road along the Nile is well made, but it has many checkpoints. You have to always specify nationality and destination, and can then continue.

Ägypten09

In Luxor we took the "Rezeiky Camp" looking for something finally has something and decided to stay. In the evening we walked to the Luxor Temple, and have talked with four German motorcyclists and a German cyclist. Go next Monday in Aswan on the ferry.

Tuesday, 01/26/2010

washing day - Xenia washed (the washing machine needs 4 hours per pass, so the rest is washed by hand), I blog, complete water, clean water and filter discs and paper scraps the car with the new stickers (Thanks to MoRo's).

Ägypten11 Ägypten12

We walk once more along the Corniche and in the evening we surf and watch film. Xenia emailed her an interesting job ad to be about driving in Cairo time on the "German University in Cairo" ...

Wednesday, 27/01/2010

rest day in Luxor - there is still something to do laundry and shop. Here every one thinks is a normal tourists (so a fool) and so should we pay for drinks as five times the price. Unfortunately, we fall for the first time also gullible. But one learns quickly and then the vegetables, bread and bought so on in a different place (almost) normal prices. Later Xenia is look at the Luxor Temple, and I translated into McD. Evening is back in fashion surfing and chatting. It is a British Landy with a German-British couple arrived. They drive around in the world since 1997.

Today we left Luxor. We followed the paved road to the west and moved to El Kharga. At many checkpoints we have to stop. In Baghdad (the first site of El Kharga Oasis), we have to take even a cop who takes us to El Kharga a tourism police. There we will be invited to tea and we copied our ID cards. That we want to make Bush Camp, they understand only after a long explanation. Then they give us a police car with an escort, and we fear even that the poor guys in there now have to bush camp with us. But at the last checkpoint at the village they say goodbye and we go to the first dunes. Since we will be undisturbed and enjoy the sand.

After a nice night in the dunes, we went further today on a good road to El Dakhla. Here we found something to search for the "Bir Elgabel Camp". We can go camping and swimming in the pool of "Hotspring". The water is about 30 degrees Celsius and we enjoy it. At lunch we met two Swiss cyclists. They have been on the road in August 2009.

Road Trip - All the oasis route along the White Desert NP. The road is generally in good condition and has hardly any traffic, so it's almost a little boring. In the evening we put ourselves back in the middle of the White Desert to the Bush camp. Solved even for a ticket. Besides we have some tourist bush taxis and a group of campers around. But we find a quiet corner and can really enjoy the desert. Unfortunately the weather today is something bad, so nix Wed full moon is in the White Desert.

Ägypten37 Ägypten40

Sunday, 31/01/2010, 191 km

Today we drove more or less the "Blue Route" of the White Desert NPs. There is a brochure with a map and we follow the first time the good marks. However, listen to the marks on some point and we just look with GPS and brochure, and now and then-emerging tire marks about the route.

Ägypten45 Ägypten52

The two oases, we will also promptly, but after that we seek our way across country back to the road. Xenia learns more sand driving (we have finally only 1.1 bar in the tires), but we can not but then dunes all driveways.

Ägypten59 Ägypten54

way we look from and about ways to drum. When we reached the road it is already three clock and we go straight to "Ahmed's Safari Camp in the Bahariya - Oasis.

Monday, 02.01.2010, 369 km

Another Road Trip - The road is good, but the traffic is increasing. Especially when you get near Cairo. The city (including its suburbs) is spreading further and further out into the desert. Thanks to GPS and a sense of (Calculated from T4A and wrong way - they think existed in Egypt, driving on the left ...), we find the "Salma - Camp" good. We make fresh and quickly go right to the city where we meet Anne. She is the director of the bookbinding workshop at the "German University in Cairo (GUC). Since it has been canceled by the end of February, it seeks a successor. That would possibly something for Xenia. We eat well and Anne talks about her work. For tomorrow, we make a visit in the GUC and we come to bed late. We'll see if the trip now so ceases, as it began: I learned Xenia in the first country in Africa to know and now I let them back in the last ...
